Saturday arrived, so having weighed up the options it was a case of a short journey down to the Tilehouse Arena to watch, I had hoped, would be two early season games. Well the First team were scheduled to play Coventry team Dunlop but they conceeded the5 points, which we have done ourselves in recent seasons, so we cannot really grumble too much. In fairness they sent over enough players and borrowed some of our Squad players to enable a game to take place. Refereed by the sprightly Dave Hanson, who kept up with play and explained his decisions. One thing he needs to consider is where to position himself when potential try scoring plays are likely to occur.
On the Hanson Family front, Callum showed his pace to run unopposed for a try but most important was Chas who does an excellent job behind the bar.
Our Development squad were expecting a visit from Wednesbury, but the Saturday morning phone call put paid to that.
If you are looking for a competitive event then you need to look no further than Old Yards Quiz Evenings. Friday evening saw a variety of teams, ten altogether, hoping to get hold of the Star of the week badges, much coveted by many but only worn by a few.
In the individual section a large tin of Cadbury Roses was won by Nigel Hough who was assisted in the consumption process by Pembo. I must thank those generous raffle sponsors, Mr D. Jenkins (Olton Building services) and Mr Colin Bosworth (Father of Daniel).
The result of the Quiz was fairly conclusive with victory going to teachers led by Mary Rochford and Alan Burgess. In second place came the team consisting of Steve and Lynda Painter, Judith and Tom Bridge and the highly knowledgable Mrs Anne Adams.
A special mention goes to newcomers on the quiz scene, Leanne and Phil, Ruth and Dave Rimmer who experienced the heights of tenth place.
Thanks to all who took part and helped raise almost two hundred and fifty pounds which will be sent to Parkinsons U.K. and the Cancer Unit at Solihull Hospital.
