The League season is getting closer and closer

Mon, 27 Aug 2018 12:00

With our league programme only a week away, we needed a good work out and that was what our journey to Harborne provided. However, the first thing was to locate their ground as they seem to have had many homes over the years so the suggestion that you drive to every sports ground in the south of Birmingham until you find it might not be a bad idea.

On to the action. The first half saw us moving the ball wide to little effect but the home side did so with a little more sharpness and went in at the interval 12-0 to the good. Now, the second half was very different. We brought on young Peter on to the front row and the difference was almost immediate as we drove them back at a rate of knots. I suspect the Harborne tight head will remember the experience both physically and mentally. With the tactic needed slowly becoming obvious, the whole game changed. With our boys camped in their 22 and with three tries scored, the wise men on the touchline were impressed by our ability to think on their feet.

The final score of 17-19 was not ideal but if we could produce a goal kicker, not our maturing one time number tens, who these days are content to provide touchline analysis.

Next Saturday sees the start of our league programme with Old Leamingtonians visiting the Tilehouse Arena for a 3.00 kick off.
