A DAY OUT IN SHROPSHIRE

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 12:00

FIRST TEAM

With a full team load of players supporting Purdy on his European excursion that eventually leads to wedded bliss, there were gaps in our preferred line up as they took on Shrewsbury. It is probably fair to say that all teams have availability problems at times and a squad of back up players that can step up at short notice is vital. No excuses, my reporter in Salop (that's what the locals call it) Tom Power, thought that we played well enough in parts to have collected more than bonus points but the penalty count against us eventually cost us the game. We could point our fingers at the referee but our own lack of discipline is probably the main factor.
New coach, Richard, was pleased with many parts of our performance and as we outscored the home team in terms of tries by 4 to 3, there is hope for us.  A special mention for our league debut player, Reece, who according to our coach scored an excellent try. There are areas in our game which need some attention but I think we will keep that for our the training pitch rather than share them with future opponents.

A Special Day in the history of our club
50 years ago this weekend, we played our first game at our current ground.  In all honesty I cannot think of a better setting than our Tilehouse Lane home.
We are inviting players, officials and followers of the club from over those years to join us in celebration. News has reached us that the driving force behind the original idea, Dave Collen, will be joining us from his Channel Island retreat, to celebrate the occasion. We are also attempting to contact the former Scrum half, Nick Booth (Blair).
It should be a memorable day so get there early and enjoy the company.
