Old Yardleians RFC: Club News

PROMISING START BUT PLENTY OF WORK TO BE DONE

Wed, 07 Sep 2016 12:00

FIRST TEAM

Playing at home against a useful Bournville team, the pre- match showers made the pitch slippery and handling suffered at times. However, with our league programme due to commence this Saturday at Shrewsbury, it was a very useful work out.  Handling, particularly passing, was very disappointing especially with our centres looking so dangerous when given clean and early ball. In addition, if our forwards were able to arrive at the breakdown just a little quicker then I think there is much to look forward to in the coming season.
A special welcome to the very knowlegable Nat and Andy, and I wish them and their more than useful son (a match winning potential outside half in my opinion) an enjoyable time at the Old Yards. Yet another product of Tommies,  Reece managed to collide with Andy Pearce our winger, who had to leave the game with possible concussion.  The final score was a 10-10 draw. Two tries per team and no kicker came close to adding conversions.

VANDALS
Our up and coming Vandals made the short trip to Southport, a very strong northern club, in order to take on their 'Shipwreckers'. Early reports from up North tell us that we had a win by 26-12.  I am confident that a detailed report will be arriving soon.

Micros, Minis and Juniors

Sunday was the first registration day for our 'stars of the future' and the number of youngsters present suggest that we will be a force to be reckoned with this season.
