Second Team win at Ludlow

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 12:00

An excellent result for Old Yardleians Second XV on Saturday. A victory by a score of 28-12 does not really reflect how superior Old Yards were in most aspects of the game.

One of the biggest packs seen this year confronted our team and one or two throats must have been swallowing hard before the kick off. However it soon became apparent that our individual skills and combined team-work were far too much for the Ludlow team to cope with.

Four excellent tries were scored, all converted by fly-half Ian Walker. The pick of them coming from a pick up at the base of a scrum followed by sure inter passing between Tom Thacker and Matt Lillywhite saw a movement of some 70 metres before Tom touched the ball down wide of the right hand post.

Had we not tried to out-muscle their monstrous forwards other scores were certainly there for the taking. However, considering we had not played for a number of weeks this was an encouraging and well deserved win.

Well done the Second Team
