Old Yardleians RFC: Club News

OUT WITH THE OLD IN WITH THE NEW.

As I sit here looking out at the rain, feeling really lethargic (the first prop to tell me what that word means wins a special prize), I look back at the news items on this website and I guess that they have different significance to each one of us. We have lost some good friends but before I get too deeply into that area, it's probably a good idea to move on and to look ahead.

Senior Teams
Our First XV have recovered a little after some disappointing performances. The win against Malvern boosted morale and this week's 55-5 victory over a previously unbeaten Handsworth was most impressive.  The highlight of the game was when young second row Phil Painter broke from his own 22, fed our other and even younger second row Mick Brennan who shrugged off all challenges to score.  Club Physio and one time second row, Kevin Grant, was amazed and commented that in his day that second rows were not expected to pass, catch or run with the ball. What would big Al Harrison have said we can only guess!

On the next pitch, the Vandals, faced a Bournville 3rds. It looked as if we were a little more streetwise as we edged to a narrow 17-5 win.

The Sunday Morning Gang
Ad we woke up to frost, ice and fog, there was divided opinion as to whether the the weather and pitch conditions would be safe enough for our young stars to play their matches against Birmingham/Solihull (Bees).  It was left to the managers of each team to make the decision. Some games went ahead and some stopped half way through and some didn't start. More accurate details will be published soon.

New Year Resolutions
what I would like to see for the future is a greater desire to play.  Only cry off when you have a genuine reason. You know deep down inside that once you are on the pitch that you enjoy your game and the post match social intercourse. So, get off your backsides and tell your captain that you are available.  This applies to all our players, Seniors and Minis.
