PULSATING PERFORMANCE GOES PEAR-SHAPED

Tue, 23 Sep 2014 12:00

First XV
Malvern, a club we have rarely met over the years, mainly because they have been in higher leagues than us, was the League match that would give us an insight into how much progress we had made recently. I stayed at the club to watch our 2nds and 3rds in action but was in contact with our match reporter down south, Steve Price who has shown impressive technological skill and he informs me that he has traded in his pigeon for a Nokia.  When we spoke at half-time with our boys winning by 21-10, a mixture of thoughts crossed my mind. Could we snatch defeat from the jaws of victory? surely not. But I should have known better .Malvern fought back, in what their reporter describes as a 'pulsating performance' to snatch victory by 41 points to 30. Oh well, 'easy come, easy go'.

Back at the club
Yet another master of mobile communications, Dave Simpson, broke the news that at Villa Park, three goals had been scored in three minutes. Nothing to do with the superior skills of Mr Wenger's boys, but a mystery virus did the job. If this virus was available on a free transfer, the Villa might even sign it to go with the others.
Our Development team were playing host to Kidderminster and I was very impressed by the performance. A victory by 31-12 was well deserved. However, apparently the Kidderminster team was hit by multiple cry offs just before the game.  Perhaps it was the same one that devastated the Villa.
Also playing at home, our Vandals (3rds) were up against a very impressive Malvern thirds and were well beaten 5-43. I would imagine that Malvern 2nds must be a really good side but I could not find any evidence regarding where they were playing. Maybe they were suffering from the virus.
Congratulations to one time Old Yards winger, Bob Anderson for winning the Old Y's Archery contest. Thanks to Bryan Jones and the Solihull Archers for their support.
