Old Yardleians RFC: Club News

IT GOES FROM GOOD TO EVEN BETTER.

Mon, 18 Nov 2013 12:00

A very good weekend for our teams with wins for all, bonus points and lots of tries scored and very few points conceded.

First XV
Traveling back to Southam for a game that had to be played again after the previous attempt was curtailed when a sniper scored a direct hit on the ref, the boys continued the positive approach displayed against Cheltenham.  My reporter at the game was well impressed as we had the bonus point  secured before half time.  Tries were scored by Painter (again), Rai, Walker, Grocott and Bucknall.  The only disappointing aspect was that with a comfortable lead, we relaxed for a while and conceded points that in closer games could be crucial.  So, next week at Evesham, no foot off the gas until the final whistle. Final score 33-11 in favour of the Old Yards.

Development XV
Made the short trip over to Woodrush and secured an overwhelming  victory by 64-0.
I am hoping to persuade one of our squad members to take responsibility for match reports but he doesn't actually know about it yet.

Hornets XV
With a number of our players making the pilgrimage to HQ to see how many  points the All Blacks would win by, the Hornets were reinforced with a couple of our Vandals. Having narrowly lost  a few weeks ago at the home of the 'Redditch Exiles' payback time was in the minds of our boys.  After admiring the Hokey Cokey, a pre-match tradition of the visiting veterans squad, we set about them with a display of open rugby. There is no substitute for pace and apart from Ali G we had far too much for the Exiles to cope with. Try scorers included Barry Gunningham, Dave McGill, Phil G. and our young whippets Callum (son of Chicken), Charlie and full back Jack who was outstanding throughout.  A victory by 41-7 was well deserved. Thanks to the outstanding match officials, Mr M. Baldwin, Mr D. Adams and referee, Mr Graham Daly, rarely seen beyond The Spotted Dog.  Much appreciated, Thanks.
