Old Yardleians RFC: Club News

A MIXED START TO THE SEASON

Sun, 01 Sep 2013 07:08

Win some, lose some.

First XV slip to defeat in 'shield' as Ledbury sneak a late victory.
In Jake's report he mentions our tries, one from an impressive driving maul which culminated in the ref awarding a penalty try and a quality break and powerful run to the line from Andrew Pearce. A drop goal from Lee Purdy and some kicks from Jake himself.  As the experts seem to say we must concentrate our efforts on the league.  Also, please, no more holidays or weddings in season time.

Development XV  too strong for Handsworth as skipper Luke leads from the front. I think the score was about 41-7 to us but still awaiting Luke's report.

This coming Saturday

If all goes to plan. we aim to field four teams. something we have not managed for a long time.

First XV    v    Yardley and District  (home)
Dev XV     v    Old Salts   (away)
Vandals      v    Old Salts    (home)     See change below
Hornets      v    Five Ways 2nds (home)   See change below

Change of plan
As you can see above I wrote 'If all goes to plan'.  Well it didn't so the latest is as follows.
Vandals      v    Woodrush 2nds  (home)
Hornets      v    Worcester Wanderers (home)

Sunday

Get the hot dogs cooking,  its Mini and Junior registration and first training session.

A Blast from the Past
Steve's party sees many faces from the past.  Ears still recovering!
It was good to see so many stars from days gone by.  To  name just a few,  Hilton Smith, (The Earl of Salop),  Brian Wood (Jeweller supreme), Denzil, Dave (Spurs) Broadfield, Toff, Dick and Gwen and many others.

And Finally
Still too early to be certain, but the boys are looking good and I think Spurs got away lightly.
