Old Yardleians 2nds 5 - 19 Pershore 2nds

Old Yardleians 2nd XV lost an enjoyable game against Worcestershire club Pershore's 2nds. It was a battle of the Old Yards pack with their powerful mauling and dominance of the lineout against Pershore's fast back line. Against the wind, Pershore scored first with a well worked try from their backs. Yards responded with a try of their own when a rolling maul travelled fifteen metres towards the Pershore line then Martin Cartwright dived over to score. For the rest of the half Dave Rollins pin point kicking kept Pershore back in their twenty-two but the home side were then unable to make their territorial advantage pay. Starting the second half level Pershore took the initiative when their No. 8 broke a tackle close to the Yards line and went over to score a try that was converted. The home side responded well. Marcus Higgins who won virtually every lineout no matter which team threw the ball in won another throw. The ball was passed through the impressive centre partnership of Andy Pearce and Nick Booth who gave it to Gary Robinson on the wing. Robinson side stepped the Pershore winger and charged towards the line with three Pershore defenders hanging off him. Stopped just short there was not enough support to convert this golden opportunity into a score. Instead Pershore gained possession, moved the ball up field and score the game clinching try. Next week Old Yardleians 2nds travel to Camp Hill for their first game in the Greater Birmingham 2nds League.

Sunday 14th December

Sponsored by Major Brian Hope there is the Kids Christmas Party. Starting at 3pm there will be fun and games for all the kids including magic, puppets, balloon modelling and games. This will be followed by an appearance from Father Christmas.  Can Mums and Dads bring a present for Santa to give out to their child/children to avoid any disappointment?

Club Stuff:

Joey Smith back playing rugby
See the club noticeboard on Saturday for a picture of Joey playing rugby again. He is looking for a game when he pops home at Christmas.

Players Subscriptions
Thank you to the 57 players who have already paid their 2008/2009 Players Annual Subs in full. Please can the rest of you pay me at the club this Saturday as payment is now overdue. It is disappointing that four of the players who have not paid actually played for the 1st XV on Saturday.

Autumn International Tickets

I have given out most of the tickets ordered for the Autumn Internationals. If you ordered any and have not collected them from me you are running out of time. The games start this weekend?

Six Nations Tickets

Thank you to everyone who applied for Six Nations tickets. Confirmation of who was allocated what for the home games has gone out. I am waiting for the away game allocations before doing a draw to see who gets the few we get.

Anything to say

Please email me details of any Old Yards information, trivia or jokes so I can add them to the next update.
