Obituary

Colin Humphreys played a major part in the production of this programme until his untimely death on 5th July 2002, at the age of fifty-five.

Colin was introduced to the Old Ys by Andy Dunn in 1970. One of the intellectual front row forwards he delighted in tradition and those little special occasions such as the taking of wine by fellow front row combatants. He could always be persuaded to sing although he only knew two songs, a lusty rendering of The Old Pacific Sea and the Alphabet Song. His nickname Nectar apparently came from an occasion when he was quaffing Scottish and Newcastles Exhibition Ale which he describes as nectar. An enforced retirement from playing led to an interest in administration, joining the committees of firstly Greater Birmingham and then North Midlands where he took on the difficult task of dispensing justice as Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee.

Colin was an enthusiastic shareholder in the Severn Valley Railway Company and also Chairman of the Old Ys Thomas the Tank Engine Club.

We shall miss Nectar.
